Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) does not like the idea of attending her sister Amy's wedding as a single girl (particularly because her ex-fiance, Jeffrey, will be there) so she hires a male escort named Nick Mercer (Dermot Mulroney) to accompany her. Nick manages to convince everybody that the two of them are deeply in love, and eventually Kat falls for Nick. However, throughout the movie, Kat's sister admits she had an affair with Jeffrey, and it appears the wedding may not go on. Kat learns this is why Jeffrey dumped her, and the movie ends happily, with Amy getting married after admitting her guilt, and Kat and Nick falling in love.
