Forced to flee civilization after the outbreak of a deadly virus that causes the dead to rise, former Nurse Anna (Sarah Polley) and police officer Kenneth (Ving Rhames) lead a small group of survivors who are forced to take refuge in a suburban shopping mall besieged by leagues of the now-living dead. However, the recently departed are not all the survivors of the human race must deal with. Food shortages, keeping essential services like electricity running and even the own members of their race continually wreak havoc. After all, in a world where the dead have risen humans will have to learn to put aside their feeble differences or be destroyed.
