Thirteen is a coming of age film where teenager Tracy (Evan Rachel Wood) starts off as an excellent student in her year, and she gets along relatively well with her mother (Holly Hunter). However being a good girl and a good student will not get her where she wants to be: hanging with the popular students in her year and be friends with the most popular girl in school Evie (Nikki Reed). Wanting to break out of her fairly routine existence Tracy follows Evie into an unknown world that introduces her to drugs, sex and lies. She now has new desires and conflicting ideas that lead to the breakdown of her relationship with her mother. She loses her good girl identity and eventually loses herself into her new reality.
