“Once Upon a Time in Mexico” is about an outlaw recruited by a CIA agent (Johnny Depp) to assassinate a revolutionary general in Mexico. The general (Gerardo Vigil) himself is recruited by a Mexican drug lord to assassinate the president of Mexico. The outlaw, El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), has extra motivation in his quest, because the general had murdered his wife and small kid. As El Mariachi pursues the general in order to protect the president, the general’s men are able to capture the CIA agent because informants were working behind the scenes against him. El Mariachi also begins to pursue the Mexican drug lord.
